Programs & Research
Training happening now, and the research systems being built for what comes next.
The Institute runs training, workshops, and a speaker series exploring AI’s effect on litigation, access to justice, legal research, small-firm practice, BigLaw efficiency, judicial ethics, discovery, and algorithmic bias. It also serves as a hub for faculty research on AI governance and machine-learning regulation, helping the academic community converge on shared best practices for responsible adoption.
Judicial Education Think Tank
A working group on how judges can use AI safely on the bench — without letting it substitute for judicial reasoning or compromise impartiality.
Jailbreaking Legal AI
Adversarial testing of the large language models lawyers already use in practice — stress-testing them to find exactly where legal reasoning breaks down, so failure modes are documented before they cause harm in a real matter.
Research-Grade AI Systems
A longer-term build: AI tools designed for studying risk, limitation, and failure — without relying on commercial models that report user interactions back to the companies that built them. The goal is AI that teaches rather than replaces critical thinking, and that keeps the legal professional in control of process, outcome, and ethical boundary. Once complete, these systems will anchor next-generation training for attorneys, judges, and regulators.
